## What problem does verified.supply solve?

Large companies subject to the EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
must report Scope 3 emissions from their supply chain. They collect this data by sending
questionnaires to their suppliers. An SME supplier with ten large clients currently
receives ten different questionnaires — each with different formats and deadlines —
and fills in the same data ten times manually.

verified.supply solves this by maintaining a single VSME profile per supplier that
automatically populates any client's data request.

## What is the VSME standard?

The VSME (Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs) is a European standard
developed by EFRAG and recommended by the European Commission in July 2025. It defines
a standardized set of sustainability data points for SMEs, covering energy consumption,
GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2), water use, waste, workforce metrics, and governance.

Under the EU Omnibus rules, SME suppliers with fewer than 1,000 employees have the legal
right to refuse data requests that go beyond the VSME standard.

## Primary vs. secondary data

Data supplied directly by a supplier through verified.supply counts as primary data —
the highest quality tier under ESRS E1 — as opposed to secondary data derived from
industry-average emission factors. This is a key reason enterprise buyers ask their
